IMMIGRATION officers have carried out a major sting at a chain of fast food restaurants in Hampshire today.

More than 30 officers wearing stab jackets raided five Kentucky Fried Chicken outlets between Southampton and Portsmouth.

Twenty-three immigration officers and ten police officers stormed all five restaurants shortly after 1pm.

The raid, called Operation Cereus, was the result of months of investigations into the employment of illegal workers at the chain.
The largest raid was carried out at KFC at Hedge End retail park in Tollbar Way.

Three officers entered the two-storey restaurant through the front door, while another two went in through a rear entrance.
Officers seized paperwork including work logs, rotas and pay sheets and questioned four members of staff.

Two men of Asian origin were arrested.

The raid was carried out after information received from the French authorities.

Other branches raided were Leigh Road in Eastleigh, West End Road in Bitterne and two in Portsmouth.

A KFC spokeswoman said: “We have strict employment practices across all of our stores, including franchise owned outlets.

“We take all allegations regarding a breach of these practices very seriously and are assisting the authorities with their enquiries.”
